Surfactant-modified natural zeolites as carriers for diclofenac sodium release: A preliminary feasibility study for pharmaceutical applications

This research aimed to investigate the feasibility of using cetyltrimethylammonium bromide-modified natural zeolites (clinoptilolite and chabazite) as carriers for diclofenac sodium release. The surfactant-modified natural zeolites were characterized by X-ray fluorescence, X-ray powder diffraction, scanning electron microscopy, thermogravimetric analysis, differential thermogravimetric analysis, and Brunauer-Emmett-Teller surface area analysis. On the other hand, drug adsorption and in vitro release kinetics in simulated intestinal fluid were also investigated to assess the potential pharmaceutical applications of clinoptilolite and chabazite. Results showed that the higher the surfactant concentration, the greater the adsorption capacity of the surface-modified natural zeolites due to the formation of bilayers on their surface. Diclofenac sodium adsorption tests on natural zeolites showed that the adsorption capacity was lower in the natural zeolites than in the surfactant-modified natural zeolites, which indicates that the modification with the surfactant enhanced diclofenac sodium release. The surfactant-modified chabazite showed a very rapid 100% release of diclofenac sodium after 3 h, so it is not suitable for prolonged release, whereas the surfactant-modified clinoptilolite showed a rapid initial release, but maintained a gradual release, being suitable for prolonged release since after 6 h a 100% released of diclofenac sodium was not achieved. The surfactant-modified clinoptilolite is more efficient than the surfactant-modified chabazite as a carrier for diclofenac sodium.

Here we present three novel ILs characterized by X-ray crystallography resulting from partnering known anions, tetralluoroborate (BF4-), bis (trifluoromethane) sulfonimide (TFSI-), and bromide (Br-) with novel cations based on three main structural types. A simple, inexpensive, reliable, selective and sensitive liquid chromatographic method was developed and validated for the simultaneous quantification of taurine (Tau), N-acetylcysteine (NAC), glycine (Gly) and methionine (Met) and applied for the first time to the analysis of commercial alimentary supplements. The amino acids (AAs) were analyzed after labeling reaction with 2,4-dinitrofluorobenzene (DNFB) in the presence of cetyltrimethylammonium bromide (CTAB). The derivatization reaction conditions were optimized and the derivatives were separated on a Phenomenex Synergi MAX-RP 4 mu m stainless steel column under gradient elution conditions. A mixture of triethylammonium (TEA) phosphate buffer (pH 3) and acetonitrile under gradient elution conditions was used as mobile phase at a flow rate of 0.4 mL/min, UV absorbance detection was set at lambda = 360 nm. Linear responses were obtained (determination coefficient >= 0.9996). Intra-day precision (RSD) was <= 1.71% for corrected peak area ratio (AA to internal standard) and <= 0.55% for retention times (t(R)) without significant differences between intra- and inter-day data. Recovery studies showed good results for all the examined compounds (from 99.26 to 99.90%; RSD <= 1.29%) %) with RSD <= 1.29%. The method was found to be specific and sensitive. Effect of hyoscine-N-butylbromide on labor duration among nullipara in a southwestern Nigerian teaching hospital: A randomized controlled trial

Methods A randomized double-blind placebo-controlled study among 126 nulliparous women admitted in the active phase of labor to a teaching hospital in Sagamu, Nigeria, from January to August 2018. Based on the inclusion criteria, women were recruited and randomized to the study or control group, and given intravenous hyoscine-N-butylbromide 20 mg (1 mL) or sterile water (1 mL), respectively, during the active phase. Labor progress and outcomes were compared between the groups. Results The mean +/- SD duration of active phase of first stage of labor was significantly shorter in the hyoscine-N-butylbromide group (324.9 +/- 134.6 min) than in the control group (392.7 +/- 119.6 min) (P = 0.004). The rate of cervical dilatation was 1.4 +/- 0.8 cm/h in the hyoscine-N-butylbromide group and 1.0 +/- 0.5 cm/h in the control group (P = 0.004). There were no significant differences in fetal heart rate, maternal vital signs, or Apgar scores between the two groups. Conclusion Hyoscine-N-butylbromide was found to be effective in shortening the duration of the first stage of labor without adverse outcomes for mother or neonate. Supercapacitive Performance of Surfactants Wrapped KIT-6/MCM-48 Templates Based Mesoporous Co3O4

In this paper, KIT: Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology No. 6 (KIT-6) and MCM: Mobil Composition of Matter No. 48 (MCM-48) mesoporous silica templates were prepared by wrapping Pluronic (P-123) and Cetyl trimethyl ammonium bromide (CTAB). Crystal geometry, morphology, molecular vibrations and pore structure were analyzed by X-Ray diffraction (XRD), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), Fourier transform infrared (FTIR) spectroscopy and Brunauer-Emmett-Teller (BET) method based N-2 adsorption-desorption for the modified materials. As expected, MCM-48 micropore-dominated electrode exhibited higher specific capacitance (442.5 F/g) which is much superior to that of KIT-6 ( 88.9 F/g). Outstanding electrochemical execution is due to the mesoporous tailored architecture (average pore diameter of 6.1 nm) and synergistic contribution of MCM-48 architectured with a Co3O4 core.
