Wang, Xianjin;Cui, Penglei;Xia, Chungu;Wu, Lipeng research published 《 Catalytic Boration of Alkyl Halides with Borane without Hydrodehalogenation Enabled by Titanium Catalyst》, the research content is summarized as follows. An unprecedented and general Ti-catalyzed boration of alkyl (pseudo)halides (alkyl-X, X = I, Br, Cl, OMs) with borane (HBpin, HBcat) is reported. The use of Ti catalyst can successfully suppress the undesired hydrodehalogenation products that prevail using other transition-metal catalysts. Synthetically useful alkyl boronate esters are readily obtained from various (primary, secondary, and tertiary) alkyl electrophiles, including unactivated alkyl chlorides, with tolerance of other reducing functional groups such as ester, alkene, and carbamate. Preliminary studies on the mechanism revealed a possible radical reaction pathway. Further extension of the authors’ strategy to aryl bromides is also demonstrated.

Vyas, Akshay;Koshti, Rohit R.;Patel, H. N. research published 《 Effect of terminal metamers and homologous with imine and ester groups on mesomorphism and their DFT study》, the research content is summarized as follows. Three liquid crystalline series with different terminal chains I [R = Me, Et, Pr, etc.; R1 = (CH2)2OCH2Me, CH(Me)CH2OMe, (CH2)2O(CH2)3Me] have been prepared, where two of the series are metamer of each other, and all three series are homologues of each other in context to the terminal chain. All the homologues prepared were found to be enantiotropically mesogenic and screened under a polarizing optical microscope (POM). Differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) technique was used to obtain thermograms of phase transition, enthalpy and entropy change. Characterization of all homologues was carried out by means of standard spectroscopic methods; IR, proton magnetic resonance and UV spectroscopy. Series I [R1 = CH(Me)CH2OMe] exhibited polymorphism as of smectic C, smectic A and nematic mesophases, while series I [R1 = (CH2)2OCH2Me, (CH2)2O(CH2)3Me] exhibit only smectic A and nematic mesophases. The geometry of all homologues was obtained using DFT calculation, and the effect of the twist angle of the aromatic ring on mesomorphism was examined The effect of branching and length of the broken alkoxy terminal chain on the type of the mesophase was studied by comparing the terminal chain homologues. The prepared series was also compared with four structurally similar compounds to understand the effect of the relative position of groups and the effect of mol. length on thermal stability and mesophase length.

In the present study, twenty (20) structural variants of nitrofurazone were synthesized based on BIODS (Biol.-oriented drug synthesis) approach. The structure elucidation of the synthetic mols. (1-20) was carried out using different spectroscopic techniques, and their α-glucosidase inhibitory activity was also determined The synthetic mols. 1-20 exhibited good α-glucosidase inhibition than the parent, nitrofurazone. Four compounds 2, 4, 6, and 7 showed potential inhibition against α-glucosidase with IC50 values ranging between 0.63 ± 0.25-1.29 ± 0.46 μM as compared to the standard acarbose (IC50 = 2.05 ± 0.41 μM). Nevertheless, compounds 15 (IC50 = 0.74 ± 0.12 μM), and 19 (IC50 = 0.54 ± 0.3 μM) also displayed good α-glucosidase inhibition and compound 19 was the most active compound of the series. Kinetic study of the active compounds 7 and 19 was also carried out to confirm the mode of inhibition. The binding interactions of the most active compounds within the active site of enzyme were determined by mol. docking. Moreover, mol. dynamic simulation of compound 19 was also performed in order to determine the stability of the overall complex (α-glucosidase + c19) in an explicit watery environment. The synthetic mols. were predicted as non-cytotoxic, however, seven compounds 1, 3, 4, 9, 10, 11, and 12 were predicted as carcinogenic.

Verma, Suryadev K.;Punji, Benudhar research published 《 Manganese-Catalyzed C(sp2)-H Alkylation of Indolines and Arenes with Unactivated Alkyl Bromides》, the research content is summarized as follows. Selective C(sp2)-H bond alkylation of indoline like 2,3-dihydro-1-(2-pyridinyl)-1H-indole, carbazole like 9-(2-pyridinyl)-9H-carbazole and (2-pyridinyl)arenes I (R1 = H, 4-Me, 4-OMe, 3-F3C) with unactivated alkyl bromides R2(CH2)2Br (R2 = Et, Pr, 4-(9H-carbazol-9-yl)butyl, etc.) is achieved using MnBr2 catalyst in the absence of an external ligand. The alkylation uses a simple LiHMDS base and avoids the necessity of Grignard reagent, unlike other Mn-catalyzed C-H functionalization. This reaction proceeded either through a five- or less-favored six-membered metallacycle, and tolerated diverse functionalities, including alkenyl, alkynyl, silyl, aryl ether, pyrrolyl, indolyl, carbazolyl and alkyl bearing fatty alc. and polycyclic-steroid moieties. Alkylation follows a single electron transfer (SET) pathway involving 1e oxidative addition of alkyl bromide and rate-limiting C-H metalation.

Trinklein, Timothy J.;Warren, Cable G.;Synovec, Robert E. research published 《 Determination of the signal-to-noise ratio enhancement in comprehensive three-dimensional gas chromatography》, the research content is summarized as follows. We investigate the extent to which comprehensive three-dimensional gas chromatog. (GC3) provides a signal enhancement (SE) and a signal-to-noise ratio enhancement (S/NRel) relative to one-dimensional (1D)-GC. Specifically, the SE is defined as the ratio of the tallest 3D peak height from the GC3 separation to the 1D peak height from the unmodulated 1D-GC separation A model is proposed which allows the analyst to predict the theor. attainable SE (SET) based upon the peak width and sampling d. inputs. The model is validated via comparison of the SET to the exptl. measured SE (SEM) obtained using total-transfer GC3 (100% duty cycle for both modulators) with time-of-flight mass spectrometry detection. Two exptl. conditions were studied using the same GC3 column set, differing principally in the modulation period from the 1D to 2D columns: 4 s vs. 8 s. Under the first set of conditions, the average SEM was 97 (±22), in excellent agreement with the SET of 97 (±18). The second set of conditions improved the average SEM to 181 (±27), also in agreement with the average SET of 176 (±26). The average S/NRel following correction for the mass spectrum acquisition frequency was 38.8 (±11.2) and 59.0 (±27.2) for the two sets of conditions. The enhancement in S/N is largely attributed to moving the signal to a higher frequency domain where the impact of “low frequency” noise is less detrimental. The findings here provide strong evidence that GC3 separations can provide enhanced detectability relative to 1D-GC and comprehensive two-dimensional gas chromatog. (GCxGC) separations

Tang, Bo;Zhang, Xin;Geng, Lina;Sun, Liquan;Luo, Aiqin research published 《 A chiral metal-organic cage used as the stationary phase for gas chromatography separations》, the research content is summarized as follows. Chiral metal-organic cages (MOCs) are a new type of porous materials with unique mol. recognition ability, which have received research attention as a chiral stationary phase (CSP) for gas chromatog. (GC). Herein, we report the detailed investigation of a chiral MOC ([Cu12(LPA)12(H2O)12], PA = L-phenylalanine, MOC-PA) as a novel stationary phase for GC separations The MOC-PA capillary column exhibited a high-resolution performance for a wide range of analytes, including n-alkanes, n-alcs., esters, aromatic compounds and the Grob mixture, positional isomers and racemates. In particular, MOC-PA coated column displayed good resolution and performance for amino acid derivatives Moreover, the MOC-PA column showed excellent separation repeatability and reproducibility. The relative standard deviation (RSD) values for the retention times were in the range of 0.16-0.30% for run to run (n = 3), 0.31-0.77% for day-to-day (n = 3), and 3.6-4.7% for column-to-column (n = 3), resp. The exptl. results showed that MOC-PA had great potential as a GC stationary phase.
