The resulting mixture was stirred for ca. 30 minutes, whereafter the obtained crystalline product was filtered off on a filter funnel. The precipitate was washed on a filter funnel with two portions of methylene chloride (200 g each). The product was dried at room temperature for 3 days to yield 976.4 g of 5-bromo-2-methylaniline hydrochloride (100%) having an HPLC purity of 99.6%.
