After cooling to room temperature, the reaction mixture was filtered through celite, and the celite was washed with ethyl acetate. The filtrate and washing were combined and the solution was washed with water and saturated brine, dried over anhydrous magnesium sulfate, and filtered. The filtrate was concentrated, and the residue was purified by silica gel column chromatography (hexane/ethyl acetate 80:20 – 25:75) to give the title compound (5.91 g, yield 58%) as a pale-yellow oil. 1H-NMR (300 MHz, CDCl3) delta:1.72 (d, J = 3.4 Hz, 1 H), 2.00 – 2.29 (m, 2 H), 3.25 (d, J = 10.2 Hz, 1 H), 3.33 (td, J = 8.8, 3.6 Hz, 1 H), 3.40 – 3.59 (m, 2 H), 4.63 (br. s, 1 H), 6.54 – 6.70 (m, 2 H), 7.05 (t, J = 9.4 Hz, 1 H).
