General procedure: In a typical run, in the air atmosphere, a reaction tube was charged with aryl halide (1.0 mmol), phenylboronic acid (1.0 mmol), ionic Pd-NHC complex (0.001 mmol), and K2 CO3 (1 mmol). The yields were determined by GC with use of undecane as the internal standard. All of the coupling products were previously reported. The turn over frequency (TOF) was calculated using the following equations: TOF = TON/time of reaction and TON = moles of desired product formed/moles of the catalyst.
